Abstract

1298759 Nuts A L PIKE 28 May 1971 [9 March 1970] 11220/70 Heading F2H A nut which may be provided with a hexagonal body portion 2 comprises a resilient scraper attached to the bottom of a recess in a bearing face of the nut so that by tightening down the nut relative to a surface on which the nut is to bear, the scraper scrapes or otherwise cleans the surface during the tightening process. As shown, one or more scrapers 10 are riveted to the bottom of one or more recesses in the bearing face. In one embodiment two scrapers 10 extend tangentially of a ring 8 of resilient material which is secured by rivets (11) (Fig. 5, not shown) to the base of a recess 7 in the nut whereas in another embodiment one scraper in the form of a resilient bent strip of material is secured by riveting to the base of a recess in a cylindrical part of the nut (Figs. 1 to 3, not shown).
