Abstract

1296588 Steam sterilizer H E STORK 9 Nov 1970 [10 Nov 1969] 53228/70 Heading A5G A sterilizing autoclave chamber 1 is supplied with steam from a generator 2 via a supply line 15a having a constriction 15. The generator is designed to produce steam rapidly and is supplied with hot water from the vessel 3 where it is heated under pressure and passes to the generator 2 (heated by elements 10) via conduit 14 and valve 7. The constriction 15 causes a back pressure to develop in the steam-producing system whereby, at a predetermined pressure, the supply of water from vessel 3 is cut off until the pressure in chamber 1 falls. Vessel 3 is pressurized by steam passing from chamber 1 via conduit 9, steam throttle 12 and valve 6 (valve 5 being closed) and is heated to a predetermined temperature which can be related to the steam pressure in (5a) by heater 8 controlled by thermostat 16. The apparatus may be set to operate automatically under the control of a conventional "clock" which energises and operates the valves appropriately. Modifications of the apparatus comprising various refinements are described with reference to Figs. 3-5 (not shown).
