Abstract
1296524 Ignition systems for burners UNITED GAS INDUSTRIES Ltd 18 Nov 1969 [20 Nov 1968] 54952/68 Heading F4T When a gas valve (not shown) is being opened to supply gas to a burner, a switch 10 is closed to charge a capacitor 19 with current rectified by a diode 21, the capacitor discharging through the primary of a transformer 16 when a thyristor 18 is triggered to cause sparking at a gap 17 connected across the transformer secondary. The gas valve has a control spindle 22 slidingly connected to a control knob 23 which must be pushed to unlock the spindle 22 prior to rotation for opening the valve. This pushing causes the knob 23 to abut an operating member 29 which urges a moving contact 11 of the switch 10 against a contact 13 to charge the capacitor 19. When the valve has been opened and the knob 23 released, the knob 23 is urged outwardly by a spring 27 to allow the moving contact 11 to be spring urged against a contact 12 to connect the capacitor 19 to the trigger of the thyristor 18 to trigger same. Alternatively (Fig. 2,) the thyristor trigger is connected to the current supply, but bypassing the diode 21, so that the thyristor is triggered on alternate half-cycles.
