1296369 Thick walled fabrics HITCO 22 Dec 1969 [6 Jan 1969] 62266/69 Heading D1K A substantially homogeneous thick walled fabric comprises a plurality of warp planes each defined by a plurality of warp yarns each yarn following an angled path lying in the thickness of the fabric and some of the yarns traversing the entire thickness of the fabric the density of the fabric being in excess of 20% of the yarn material density. The fabric described is woven on a circular loom on the paths followed by the yarns lie in a radial direction. The warp yarns are shown in Fig. I at 82 with weft yarns 51 and stuffer yarns 97. The fabric may be woven as a frustum wherein the thickness of the wall increases with the increasing diameter, this being achieved by the introduction of additional warp ends as the weaving progresses. Alternatively a flat fabric can be produced on the circular loom or as shown in Fig. 4. A cylindrical fabric in which the paths of the warps enter the fabric to a varying extent (A-H) to produce a substantially even density of yarns throughout the cylinder. The yarn material used may be wool, graphite with nylon and coated to reduce friction, carbon, silica quartz or glass and may be treated by leaching or pyralysis. The finished fabric may be used for conveyor belting, high heat resistance parachutes, rocket nose cones or tubes.
