Abstract

1296360 Bactericidal compositions MEDILINE AG 18 Dec 1969 [23 Dec 1968] 61121/ 68 Heading A5B [Also in Division C4] An aerosol bactericidal composition, especially for use in feminine hygiene, comprises 0.01 to 5.0% by weight of one or more bactericides, 0.01 to 6.0% by weight of an emollient fat, oil or fatty or oily emulsifying agent, an acid and an aerosol propellant or propellant mixture having a vapour pressure at 20‹C above 4 Kg/cm<SP>2</SP>, the composition giving an acid reaction when sprayed onto moist skin and containing not more than 10% undissolved solids. Several bactericides are specified including halogenated phenols, bisp-chlorophenyldiguanidohexane, a quaternary ammonium salt, 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol, phydroxy benzoic acid esters, 3-bromo-2-nitropropane, lactylate salts, coco fatty acid triglycerides and 6-acetoxy-2,4-dimethyl-m-dioxan. The emollient may be a fat or oil which may be polyoxyethylated and the acid may be inorganic, e.g. phosphoric or boric, or organic, e.g. a C 1-20 aliphatic carboxylic acid, an araliphatic acid or an aromatic acid. Conventional propellants, e.g. halogenated hydrocarbons, may be used.
