Abstract

1296238 Coating webs KALLE AG 27 Jan 1970 [29 Jan 1969] 6270/72 Divided out of 1296237 Heading D1L A web of sheet material 2 is impregnated and then coated with one or more coatings in an apparatus including a container 3 with partitions 5a and 5b therein which have slits 7, there also being a slit 7 in the end wall 4a, the material being impregnated by liquid 8 in the chamber 6a in which it passes around a guide roll 13, and then coated by solutions 9 and 9a in succession in chambers 6b and 6c. The slits 7 between chambers 6b and 6c and in the end wall 4a act as doctor devices and are of increasing size to accommodate the increase in thickness of the sheet due to its being coated. On leaving the slit 7 in wall 4a the sheet passes through a basin 15 of coagulant 16, the sheet being coated with polymer, solutions 9 and 9a in the embodiment, the level in basin 15 being I when the device is not in use. As an alternative the container 3 may be within basin 15 and can be lifted out of it. Chambers 6a and 6b have perforated bottoms under which boxes 10 and 10a can be evacuated.
