Abstract

1296119 Valves UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 16 June 1971 [16 June 1970] 29264/70 Heading F2V Changeover valve for reversing the connections between two inlets 2, 4 and two outlets 3, 5, comprises a tubular valve member 9 movable between two positions in a cylindrical valve chamber 1. The inlets and outlets are spaced axially in alternating sequence along the chamber. The valve member is tubular and open at the inner end, and spaced radially from the chamber by seals 12, 13 thereon so as to define two annular flow chambers 14, 22. Chamber 22 communicates with the valve member interior through ports 21. In the position shown, inlet and outlet 2, 3 are directly connected through the valve chamber whilst inlet and outlet 4, 5 are connected through the annular chamber 14. In the other position, inlet and outlet 2, 5 are connected through ports 21 and chamber 22 whilst inlet and outlet 4, 3 are connected through annular chamber 14. Two such valves may be installed in positions upstream and downstream of a process plant, Fig. 2 (not shown), to enable the paths of two fluid streams through the plant to be changed over without changing over the final outlets from the downstream valve. The two valves may be ganged together.
