Abstract

1296063 Axial-flow fans; jet propulsion plant DOWTY ROTOL Ltd 6 April 1970 [3 May 1969] 22684/69 Headings F1C F1J and F1T A bladed rotor includes a row of blades and a ring-like member encircling the blades, the member being so mounted upon some at least of the blades as to be rotatable with the blades and to have freedom for limited movement with respect to the blades to accommodate any distortion of the ring-like member. An intermediate platform 32 separating fan blades 39, 40 of a bypass gas turbine engine from fan blades 21 is supported by the blades 21. For this purpose, each blade 21 has a spigot 30 carrying a partspherical member 31 which engages a correspondingly shaped depression 37 formed in the inner surface 38 of the platform 32. During operation, centrifugal force increases the diameter of the platform 32 by about one eighth of an inch, but the members 31 slide radially outwards on their spigots 30 under the influence of centrifugal force to maintain contact with the depressions 37. There may be more than the two rows of blades shown, and all, or some, of the rows may be of fixed pitch or of variable pitch, twist or camber. In the embodiment shown, the blades 21 are of fixed pitch while the blades 39, 40 are of variable pitch.
