Abstract

1,212,167. Ducted fan rotors. ROLLSROYCE Ltd. Feb. 5, 1969, No.6238/69. Headings F1J and F1T. A front fan rotor of a gas turbine ducted fan engine comprises a stage of composite blades 16 formed by axially spaced rows of inner aerofoil blade members 17, 18 attached by way of a common shroud 22 to a row of outer aerofoil blade members 20, the number of rows of inner blade members being a simple multiple (in this case two times) of the number of rows of outer blade members. The inner rows converge towards each other in the radially outwards direction and each of the blade members 17, 18 has a root portion 23 having radially extending recesses 24 receiving outwardly directed flanges 25 of the rotor hub 21 which may be formed of epoxy resin reinforced with carbon fibres. Similarly, each outer blade member 20 has a root portion 27 with recesses 30 receiving epoxy resin ring members 31 which inter-connect all the blade members 20. Blocks of elastomeric material 26 in the connection between the inner and outer blade members permit relative radial expansion. Each two axially adjacent inner blade members 17, 18 are angularly spaced apart, whilst each outer blade member 20 is angularly disposed between the two inner members 17, 18.
