Abstract
1295930 Bobbin tension adjustment SINGER CO 25 Sept 1970 [2 Oct 1969] 45776/70 Heading D1G A bobbin case 1, having an arm 2 pivoted at 3 to the case and biassed by a spring means 12, 13 to exert pressure on a bobbin (not shown) to provide thread tension, has a two part device for adjusting the tension comprising a first means 21 connected to the body and a second means 24 movable relatively to the first to set the maximum tension, the two means being movable together to reduce the tension. To set the device part 21 is screwed downwards until its head 22 abuts the lower face of the stepped aperture 27, part 24 then being screwed down to bear against the ball pivoted spring 12, 13 until the maximum thread tension (40-45 gms) is achieved. The opening in part 21 above the part 24 may then be filled with sealing material. To change the thread tension the operator may screw part 21 up or down between the limits set by the step of 27 and the head 32 of a rivet 31, but the preset maximum tension cannot be exceeded and the spring cannot be overstressed. The bobbin case is a modification of that described in Specification 994629, and the arm 2 has a spherical protuberance (4, Fig. 2 not shown) which engages a spherical seat in the top flange of the bobbin.
