Abstract

1294334 Flexible hose AES (PLASTICS) Ltd 19 April 1971 [4 Nov 1969] 53955/69 Heading F2P A flexible hose comprising a flexible thermoplastic tubular sleeve having an internal coaxial reinforcing helical spring is produced by surrounding the spring with an expanded sleeve maintained without external radial deforming force and heating the sleeve to contact it into secure engagement with the spring. The sleeve is extruded and inflated by compressed air, the ends of the sleeve being sealed, the walls of the sleeve engaging the internal surface of a jacket which cools the sleeve, to "freeze" it so that the sleeve is held in the expanded state. The sleeve is then applied over the spring which is held axially extended on a mandrel and heated to contract on to the spring. The spring is released on the mandrel and the sleeve is further heated to complete the contraction. The sleeve which may be heated before or during inflation is of P.V.C., and the spring is of steel or plastics.
