Abstract

1311205 Extruding corrugated tubes INDUSTRIELE ONDERNENING WAVIN NV 20 April 1970 [21 April 1969] 18808/70 Heading B5A An extruded P.V.C. tube 5 is formed with circumferentially extending corrugations by expansion against a moving moulding surface 33a, defined between a pair of endless chains of co-operating mould halves 8, 8a, by pressurized air admitted between the expansible end seals 21 of a cylindrical expansion device 16 which reciprocates within the moving tube 5 and surface 33a along a rod 11 attached to the extrusion die mandrel. The device 16 is retracted by a spring 32, or a weight loading, against which it is advanced by the surface 33a when the seals 19 press the tube 5 thereagainst, either upon expansion by pressurized medium actuated relative movement between plates between which they are attached, or upon inflation by pressurized air admitted through a bore 6 of rod 11, flexible pipe 17 and passages 20, the discharge of pressurized air from the cylinder 16 to expand the tube 5 being delayed, until after the seals 19 have inflated, by an adjustable spring seated valve 15. The advance of the device 16 is limited by a microswitch 29 on the rod 11 which, when contacted by the device 16 terminates the pressurized air supply from a pump 30 and connects the bore 6 to a vacuum pump 31. Pressurized air leaking from the end seal 19 adjacent the extrusion die is vented through the extrusion die mandrel. The mould halves 8, 8a may be cooled. [GB1311205A]
