Abstract

1471692 Moulding drainage pipes F JELDHAMMER BRUG AS 3 June 1974 24555/74 Heading B5A [Also in Divisions F2 and A1] A corrugated drainage pipe is formed by extruding a smooth-walled tube with longitudinally extending increased wall thickness in two diametrically opposed locations and subjecting the tube to a moulding press to form annular corrugations in its wall. Drainage slots are cut in the external corrugation peaks of the pipe. The thickenings in the pipe wall appear in crosssection as whole or partial filling of the external and internal corrugations at the two locations. Apparatus for producing drainage pipes according to the invention comprises an extruder with an annular nozzle having increased radial width at two diametrically opposed locations, a moulding tool synchronously movable with the pipe as it is extruded and provided with corrugated moulding surfaces in which the height of the corrugations are reduced at locations registering with the locations of said increased width portions of the extruder nozzle, an internal trailing mandrel which forms a seal with the pipe wall and means for producing air pressure within the pipe, between the extruder and mandrel to press the pipe against the moulding surfaces of the moulding tool.
