Abstract

1,262,663. Moulding corrugated tubes. WAVIN N.V. 28 Feb., 1969 [8 March, 1968], No. 10786/69. Heading B5A. [Also in Divisions B6 and F2] A plastics, e.g. P.V.C., tube 7 having an exterior profile of diametrical or helically extending grooves and an ungrooved interior profile, is moulded from an extruded tubular profile by the pressing thereof into a corrugated profile into contact with a mould 1, whereafter the corrugations extending into the tube 7 are deformed in the direction of the tube axis into contact with, and preferably welded to, the walls of adjacent corrugations. Corrugations are formed by extruding the tube 7 into a first mould, Fig. 1, e.g. defined by two or more moving endless bands of co-operating segments 1, against the corrugated profile whereof the tube 7 is pressed. The corrugated tube 7 is then engaged by a second mould, Fig. 3, e.g. defined by two or more moving endless bands of cooperating segments, defining a corrugated profile wherein the mould corrugation crests extend outwardly of the tube to the same diameter as, but inwardly of the tube to a greater diameter than, the diameters D and d of the corresponding corrugations of the first mould 1, whereby the inwardly extending corrugations are deformed into contact with the walls of adjacent corrugations on passing over a heated mandrel 12. The second mould may also be heated.
