Abstract
1377401 Extruded pipe with helical interior grooves INDUSTRIELE ONDERNEMING WAVIN NV 18 Jan 1972 [18 Jan 1971] 2422/72 Heading B5A [Also in Division F2] An extruded polyvinylchloride, polyethylene, or polypropylene pipe, Fig. 3, comprises a circular section outer surface 12, and an inner surface provided during extrusion with ribs 7 and grooves 8 which extend helically to the tube axis, and which may alternate along the tube with axially extending ribs and grooves. Openings 15 may be drilled through the extruded pipe. The ribs and grooves of the inner surface are defined by similar but longitudinally extending ribs and grooves of the extrusion mandrel around which the pipe is extruded, and the helical rib and groove orientation is obtained by opposed roller or belt pairs 9, 10, and 9a, 10a, Fig. 2, which engage and draw the pipe from the extrusion die, being arranged to rotate about axes at an angle to the extrusion direction, to cause the pipe issuing from the die to rotate about its axis. The axial ribs and grooves are obtained by roller pairs rotating about axes perpendicular to the extrusion direction. The rollers or belts draw the pipe from the die through an external sizing device, and a cooling water spray. The extruder may have one or more screws.
