Abstract
129,394. Brownlow, R. S. April 13, 1918. Cutting glass.-In a machine for dividing the bulbs of electric lamps &c. the lamps &c. remain stationary while a blowpipe and diamond rotate. In the form shown, which may be duplicated so that two lamps may be operated on at once, each lamp is mounted in a holder f on a stationary shaft b around which rotate conical sleeves c, d. The outer sleeve d carries a table q, on which are supported a blowpipe stand s and a bracket with a pivoted arm r<2> carrying the diamond. A spring u causes the diamond to bear on the bulb except when the arm is deflected by the rise of a cone k attached to the inner sleeve. A driven pulley m forms one member of a clutch, the upper member o<1> of which can be raised by a pedal to stop rotation of the sleeves. The clutch member o' is secured to the inner sleeve by a pin passing through a slot d<1> in the outer sleeve, so that depression of the pedal also causes the diamond to leave the bulb. Compressed gas and air are supplied to the blowpipe through an axial passage in the shaft b, a circumferential groove and a hole in the inner sleeve, a slot in the outer sleeve, and a passage in the table q. According to the Provisional Specification, the outward movement of the burner or diamond carrier, or both, may be brought about by stationary trip pieces; also the clutch may be dispensed with.
