Abstract

1293810 Grafted olefin polymers COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE DE RAFFINAGE 19 Aug 1970 [26 Aug 1969] 39974/70 Heading C3G A graft polymer is produced by contacting, in the absence of oxygen, a powdered polymer or copolymer of ethylene or an alpha-olefin, which has previously been subjected to ionizing radiation, with an alpha-ethylenic carboxylic acid, the acid being either in vapour form or atomized form and diluted, if required, with an inert gas. In examples, polyethylene or polypropylene is grafted with acrylic acid. The graft polymerization is carried out at a temperature below the melting point of the olefin polymer.
