1293777 Photographic silver halide materials with an antistatic backing layer AGFAGEVAERT AG 19 April 1971 [12 Feb 1970 12 March 1970] 21411/71 heading G2C A photographic material comprises at least one light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer on a support which is coated on both sides with a polyolefine in which the rear surface of the support, the rear surface being the surface not carrying the silver halide emulsion layer, carries a water-impermeable layer, which layer contains at least 70% by wt of a water-insoluble binder, 5 to 25% by wt of an antistatic agent and 1 to 10% by wt of an inorganic or organic matting agent, based on the total weight of the dry layer. The polyolefine may be polyethylene or polypropylene. The water impermeable layer may be 0À5 to 10Á thick and may have a surface resistance of between 10<SP>6</SP> and 10<SP>9</SP> ohms. The support may be paper. The water-insoluble binder may be a copolymer of ethylene, a half ester of an α, #-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid, vinyl chloride and a vinyl ester of a saturated carboxylic acid. The antistatic agent may be a polystyrene sulphonic acid or a spirocyclic organic phosphoric acid ester. The matting agent may be a water-insoluble aluminium compound e.g. aluminium hydroxide or aluminium silicate. The rear surface of the support carrying the antistatic layer is easier to write on.
