Abstract

A coating composition comprises phenol-cyclized rubber having an iodine number of up to 95, a wax, and an organic heat-seal modifier (defined). Suitable modifiers exemplified are polyvinyl butyral, polyvinyl acetate, vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer, vinyl acetatevinyl chloride copolymer, rosin ester, polyalphamethyl styrene, polyisobutyl methacrylate, and low molecular weight polyethylene.ALSO:Substrates, such as glassine, kraft paper, cellulosic films, polyester films, polyethylene, polypropylene, aluminium foil, cellulose acetate film, polycarbonate film, polystyrene film, nylon film, polyvinylidene chloride film, and polytetrafluoroethylene, are coated with a composition comprising (a) a phenolcyclized rubber having an iodine number of up to 95, (b) a wax, and (c) an organic heat-seal modifier (defined). Suitable modifiers are polyvinyl butyral, polyvinyl acetate, vinyl acetate-ethylene andvinyl chloride copolymers, rosin ester, polyalphamethyl styrene, polyisobutyl methacrylate, and low molecular weight polyethylene.
