Abstract

1293735 Puffing tobacco AMERICAN BRANDS Inc 21 May 1971 [27 May 1970] 16483/71 Heading A2C Tobacco tissue is puffed by admixing it with droplets of hot water at a temperature of at least 70‹C and in an amount such that within a maximum period of 5 minutes substantially all of the water has been absorbed by and has effected puffing of the cell walls of the tobacco tissue, and freeze drying the resulting tobacco to retain its puffed condition. In the example, shredded flue-cured tobacco was sprayed with four times its weight of water at 90‹C and produced, after freeze drying, a tobacco having a specific volume increased by a factor of 2.16 to 1.
