1293319 Two-part couplings AMP Inc 24 June 1971 29548/71 Heading H2E A socket connector comprises a resilient contact 1 folded to channel shape and consisting of an open-ended contact-pin receiving portion 4 and a ferrule 3 crimped to a cable 2, there being detent ears 15 folded outwardly, of the channel sidewalls 7 at the open end of the portion 4 and having rear-facing shoulders 18 which engage against shoulder 32 of projections 31 of a housing 19 in which the contact is retained. The housing is a unitary insulating moulding formed with an aperture at the rear end through which the contact 1 is inserted, when leading edges 16 of the ears 15 slide over camming surfaces 34 of the projections 31 until the ears snap into engagement with the shoulders 32, a tongue 5 seating in a recess 25 in the housing. The contact pin 28 is inserted through an aperture 27 in the housing, the aperture merging with a slot 29 into which the pin can be initially registered for guiding the housing on to the pin which enters a space 9 formed by recesses 8 with slots 10 on each side and chamfered ends 11, a tongue 13 on each wall 7 bearing against the respective opposite wall 7 to limit movement apart of the walls 7. An aperture 30 in the housing allows intertion of a tool for flexing the walls 7 for removal of the contact from the housing.
