Abstract

129,328. Dunlop Rubber Co., and Worthington, J. V. Oct. 18, 1917. Tanks.- Liquid-containers, such as petrol tanks for aircraft, are provided with a non- metallic composite protective covering, the outer part of which is self-displaceable and is adapted to co-operate with a soft or plastic inner part in such a manner that the parts constitute a self-sealing covering for closing any bullet-hole made in the tank. In the example illustrated, the. covering is composed of a layer B of plastic material, canvas wrapping C, rubber thread D wound on under tension, and an outer canvas wrapping E. The tank is preferably formed of non-metallic material such as non-inflammable celluloid, xylonite, &c., and may consist of a cylinder with metal end caps, one of which has inlet and outlet fittings.
