Abstract
1292708 Storage device BYRON JACKSON Inc 4 Sept 1970 [22 Oct 1969] 42564/70 Heading A4T [Also in Division B8] Pipes S are fed along selected storage racks 39b, 39c, 39g and 38, Fig.2, by a conveyer 103, Fig.4. There is a series of each of the vertically spaced assemblages of racks shown in Fig, 2, laterally spaced horizontally, Fig.1 (not shown), and there is a single conveyer 103 respective to each assemblage. Each rack 39b, and a member 39a, are vertically slidable on a post 22 under the action of a fluid cylinder 49. This enables the racks to be progressively spaced and makes room for the conveyer 103 to be inserted between the racks. A roller (67), Fig.3 (not shown) on a mounting boss 51 of an associated rack normally coacts with the periphery of the next lower boss. The roller is connected so as to operate a valve 66, the action being such that when the associated rack is raised, the roller runs off on to the periphery of the post and causes a fluid cylinder 59b to bring about retraction of a seat 56 which otherwise is positioned to receive a pipe S. The conveyer 103 consists of an endless chain 122 carrying pipe-engaging elements 140. The chain is reciprocated in steps by the action of a fluid piston-and-cylinder unit 152. This carries dogs 165, 166, Fig.11, which respectively drivingly engage links of the chain for movement of the chain 122 in left or right directions, as viewed in Fig.11. Each pipe is drawn into the zone of travel of the conveyer elements 140 by the action of a retractable finger 212, Fig.20. This is extended and retracted by the action of a fluid cylinder 201. A friction brake acts against a sprocket (123), Fig.9 (not shown) of the conveyer 103 to prevent its inadvertent movement. Change in elevation of the conveyer 103 is adjusted by the action of a fluid cylinder 109 and associated haulage tackle 115. (for figures see next page)
