1292650 Setting mechanism in calculating machine CITIZEN WATCH CO Ltd 25 Nov 1969 [8 Jan 1969] 57669/69 Heading G4B [Also in Division B6] In a setting mechanism of a calculating machine, for transferring numerals from a keyboard to a pin carriage 10, the initial depression of a key 3 interengages the key with an associated setting bar 4 to set the pin carriage, and as the key 3 is depressed even further, the interengagement is broken, and the pin carriage 10 is shifted one step. As described, the numeral keys 3 are pivoted to a keyboard plate 1. On depression of a key 3, a depending projection 3b engages a slot 4b (or a second projection, not further disclosed) in an associated setting bar 4, to slide the bar to the right and set an appropriate pin 11 in the pin carriage 10. A shifting bar 8 is carried with the setting bar 4 by a projection 4c. On continued downward movement of the key 3 to its lowest position, the key stem 3a abuts a U-shaped slot 4a in the cranked end of setting bar 4, so pivoting the bar 4 to release the key projection 3b from the setting bar slot 4b. The setting bar 4 and shifting bar 8 are then returned to the left by springs 5, 9 respectively while the pin carriage 10 is shifted one step (shifting mechanism not further disclosed). On release of the key 3, the key and setting bar 4 are mutually repositioned as illustrated in Fig. 1 by connecting spring 5. In an alternative embodiment, the numeral key comprises a first part capable of rectilinear movement and a second, pivoted part (not further disclosed).
