Abstract

1292647 Knitting-machine K FLAD 18 Nov 1969 [27 Nov 1968 21 Oct 1969] 56423/69 Heading D1C A latch opener for a parallel or circular machine comprises a permanent magnet, or d.c. energised electro-magnet moving across the needle bed(s) with the cam carriage or stationarily positioned across the full width of the beds, and means for supplying an alternating field for demagnetising the latches. Demagnetisation may be achieved by energising the magnet with an a.c. supply on alternate traverses. Alternatively two magnets may traverse the beds and a switching arrangement may be provided to ensure the a.c. energised magnet precedes the d.c. or vice versa. If a traversing permanent magnet is used it is placed between a.c. demagnetising electromagnets. If a magnetising rail is provided along the machine demagnetisation occurs when the carriage is at the end of the bed. The needle bed may be demagnetised by a coil attached to it; or may be of non-magnetic material. The needle bodies may also be of non-magnetic material; the bodies, hooks or latch depressions may be chromium plated.
