Abstract

1,271,866. Knitting-machines. K. FLAD. 20 June, 1969 [29 June, 1968; 2 Oct., 1968], No. 31277/69. Addition to 1,200,468. Heading D1C. In a knitting machine in which the needle jacks are selected by strikers 3, pivoted on a rail 1 movable towards the jacks 4, the rail and strikers are positioned so that the magnet affects the armature 17 only, or in an alternative embodiment they are demagnetised each cycle. In the embodiment shown the rail is moved away from the jacks so that the strikers are pivoted out of line with the jacks as the contact cam faces 12. Selective energisation of electromagnets 18 attracts and holds armature 17 carried by a non-magnetisable rod 16, pivoted at right angles to the striker. Selected strikers are thereby held in the unaligned position. Since the armature is at right angles to the striker and carried by a non- magnetisable rod, it only is influenced by the electromagnet. The magnets, which may be arranged in units, are set in paraffin wax. In the alternative embodiment the strikers 110 carried by the rail 107 are held directly by the electromagnets 138 which are given an oppositely directed pulse or pulses when switched off to demagnetise the rail and plate. A condenser may be connected in parallel with each magnet so that it experiences a damped oscillating field of decreasing strength.
