Abstract

1292504 Nickel-zinc alloy INTERNATIONAL NICKEL Ltd 7 Oct 1970 [14 Oct 1969] 47726/70 Heading C7A A wrought alloy contains: - Ni 4-71% Zn 29-40% and Pb 0-2% the balance, apart from impurities such as:- Al 0À03% max., Bi 0À005% max., C 0À05% max., Fe 0À15% max., Mg 0À5% max., Mn 1% max., P 0À005% max., S 0À005% max., Si 0À05% max., and Ti 0À1% max., being Cn. The alloy has an alpha/alpha + beta solvus temperature of 427- 629‹C. and a fine grain two phase structure of beta particles dispersed discontinuously and intergranularly in an alpha matrix. The required microstructure may be produced by hamogenizing (e.g. at 815-870‹C.) hot working, solution treating, preferably at 30-110‹C. below the solvus temperature, quenching in air or water, cold working, preferably with at least 60% reduction and then recrystallizing (e.g. 28-110‹C. below solvus temperature).
