Abstract
1292403 Heat treatment apparatus KOBE STEEL Ltd 13 Nov 1970 [15 Nov 1969] 54181/70 Heading C7N Metal is continuously passed through a chamber incorporating heating and cooling zones and in which there is maintained a superatmospheric pressure of inert gas; flanking the heat treatment chamber are inlet and outlet zones through which the metal passes and in which there is maintained a pressure of inert gas lower than that in the heattreatment chamber. In one embodiment the material traverses in series inlet zone 2, intermediate pressure zone 3, heat-treatment chamber 4, (including heating zone 4a and cooling zone 4b) intermediate zone 5 and outlet zone 6. Each zone is bounded by seals of the form shown in Fig.6 as Fig. 7. The cooling zone may incorporate jets of inert gas, cooled pinch rolls, or cooled plates in proximity to the path of the material for cooling by radiation.
