Abstract

987,525. Heat treatment furnace. COMPOSITE METAL PRODUCTS Inc. July 18, 1963 [July 25, 1962], No. 28420/63. Heading F4B. [Also in Division B3] A number of metal strips 14, 15 and 16 to be formed into a composite strip are passed through a furnace having a heating portion 10a and an exit portion 10b, the strips being roll bonded between rolls 25 and 31 in the exit portion. The strips are gas heated by argon or nitrogen which is heated by radiant pipes 19 and 20 and blown by fans 42 through jet plates 22 and 24 to reach the strips. Adjustable baffles 45 allow the individual strips to be heated to different degrees. The strips may be of aluminium or stainless steel, and the rolls 25 and 31 are heated by the gas to assist in bonding. U.S.A. Specification 2,758,368 is referred to.
