1292177 Cracking hydrocarbons MITSUI SHIPBUILDING & ENG CO Ltd and MITSUI PETROCHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 27 Nov 1970 [29 Nov 1969] 56554/70 Heading C5E Hydrocarbons are thermally cracked to give olefins by blowing hydrocarbon through pipes 7 into a heating medium in a cracking chamber 14, removing gaseous product from the upper part of the cracking chamber through outlet 8, flowing the cooled heating medium over an overflow weir 5 and transferring the medium into a heating chamber 15 by a gas lift effect of the feed and cracked product, blowing a combustion gas through pipes 9 into the heating medium in the heating chamber to heat it, removing the combustion gas through outlet 10 and flowing the heated medium over an overflow weir 6 and transferring it to the cracking chamber by gas lift effect of the combustion gas. The heating medium may be a molten metal or salt.
