Abstract
1291815 Cutting by fusion; continuous casting MESSER GRIESHEIM GmbH 18 Sept 1970 [18 Sept 1969] 44652/70 Headings B3F and B3V In a continuous casting plant, at the end of a run, after the main severed sections of the strand have been removed, the cutter 6 is secured by a clamp 8 to the remaining stationary butt and moved, e.g. on a track 5, to transport the butt, before release and return to a position on the butt to make a cut. A stationary holder 9 adjacent a run-off table 3 may secure the butt while the cutter 6 is returned (for the cut by a torch 7) to the starting position, which is adjacent a roller table 1, 2 downstream of the strand driving and straightening rolls, or to another position. A roller 11 on the torch 7 supports the severed section. A length-measuring device 10 of the plant switches off the forward movement of the cutter 6 when the required length of the butt has been advanced. The cutter 6 may advance and return several times before making a cut if the required length is greater than the cutter's maximum travel.
