Abstract

1291535 Gas burners; pilot burners PYRONICS Inc 19 April 1971 [13 March 1970] 21201/71 Headings F4T and F4F A gas burner comprises a burner block 10 having a bore 12 extending therethrough, the bore increasing in cross-sectional aera from an inlet end 22 to an outlet end 14; a gas supply means 80 extending axially into the inlet end of the bore and an imperforate flange 82 extends generally outwardly from the outlet end of the means 80 having its outermost peripheral edge spaced from the wall of the inlet 22 and forming a slit 84 therewith so that air, supplied by means 50, flows through the slit 84 at a velocity sufficient to produce a relatively low pressure zone across the outlet end of member 80 and across the face of flange 82 directed towards the outlet 14. The burner block 10 has a part 88 through which a pilot burner is inserted, the pilot burner being shielded from the air flow through slit 84 by a baffle member 90 which is aligned with, and upstream of the port and extends between the flange 82 and the wall of the bore. The bore 12 is circular in transverse cross-section throughout its length and its diameter increases in non- uniform steps. The steps produce eddy flames which stabilize the main flame and obviate the need for warming up the burner. In an alternative embodiment, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the burner block is rectangular in transverse cross-section and a plurality of gas supply tubes extend across the inlet end of the bore, the slit for air flow being formed by a flange extending outwardly from the supply tubes and spaced from the wall of the bore.
