Abstract
1291465 Photopolymerization GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 29 Oct 1969 [1 Nov 1968 22 July 1969] 53056/69 Addition to 1119735 Heading C3P [Also in Divisions G5 and H1] . In the production of electromagnetic system components coated with an abrasion-resistant polymeric film, the film is produced by exposing the surface of the component to monomer vapour in ultraviolet light. Specified monomers are tetrafluorethylene, hexafluoropropylene, hexachlorobutadiene, 1,5 - hexadiene, 2,4 - hexadiene, and butadiene. In an embodiment (Fig. 1) the component 26 is placed on cooled holder 31 located in glass or metal vacuum chamber 12, which is provided with quartz window 13 underneath UV-light source 11. Monomer vapour is admitted through 36. In examples, polymer films less than 1500 thick are formed at a pressure of 2 Torr. on magnetic recording heads and magnetic tapes.
