Abstract
129,128. Blackburn Aeroplane & Motor Co., and Booth, H. July 12, 1918. Propelling.-Hinged doors are provided at the sides of the fuselage or other chamber containing the engine whereby the flow of air through the radiator or through the engine chamber, and the consequent cooling effect, may-be regulated. The doors are preferably of triangular shape to leave an unobstructed view to the pilot, and are hinged about the forward edge so as to close under air pressure. The doors may be formed with a tubular frame 6, 9, 10, hinged along the forward edge 6 in bearings 7, 8, the rear edge 9 being approximately vertical and the bottom edge 10 horizontal when the door is closed. The doors may be held in the closed position by rubber or other springs 13, 14, and may be opened by cords 15, 16 connected to a single cord 20, or by a system of levers, under the control of the pilot.
