1291084 Continuous casting I PROPERZI 27 Oct 1969 [25 Nov 1968] 52588/69 Heading B3F In a casting machine of the grooved-wheel- and-band type 2, 4, an end extension 14 of a vertical melt feed pipe 13 from a tundish extends below the mould inlet so that it is immersed in the melt bath in the mould in use, e.g. to a depth between 60 and 150 mm. for a wheel 2 of 1400 mm. diameter. The bore of extension 14 is greater than that of the pipe 13, e.g. double, so that turbulence is reduced. The cross-section of the extension 14 may be trapezoidal, like that of the mould.
