Abstract
1290532 Magnetic structures STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 5 Aug 1970 [5 Aug 1969] 39088/69 Heading H1H [Also in Division C7] An endless magnetic recording band for electrographic printing and/or display apparatus is produced by electrodepositing on a cylindrical mandrel coated with a conducting metal oxide, e.g. of Ti or Mo, a first pyrophosphate Cu layer, then a second non-ferrous magnetic layer e.g. of Co/Ni or Co. The first Cu layer may be electrodeposited from an air agitated bath of composition 75 g./l. hydrated Cu pyrophosphate (24 g./l. Cu), 250 g./l. (anhydrous) K 4 P 2 O 7 and 0À9 g./l. NH 3 , having a pH between 8À6 and 9 and temperature between 50‹ and 55‹ C., using a C.D. of 50 A.S.F. A second Co/Ni layer may be electrodeposited from a bath of composition 200 g./l. each of CoCl 2 and NiCl 2 and 40 g./l. H 3 BO 3 , having a PH between 4À8 and 5 and temperature between 50‹ and 70‹ C., using a CD of 100 A.S.F. Prior to plating the first layer, the coated mandrel may be plated with a Ni or Fe-Ni film, e.g. a Ni film from a bath of composition 225 g./l. Ni sulphamate, 30 g./l. boric acid and 15 g./l. MgCl 2 , having a pH between 2 and 4, at room temperature using a C.D. of 30 A.S.F.
