Abstract
1328016 Electro-deposition of magnetizable coatings PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 28 June 1971 [1 July 1970] 30181/71 Heading C7B A body having a magnetisable cobalt-phosphorus alloy surface comprises a substrate, an intermediate layer of metal # 500 thick, and an outer layer 500-2500A thick of electro-deposited cobaltphosphorus alloy containing 0À25-4% phosphorus, the crystal structure of the intermediate layer being such that its c-axis is 3À46-4À68 and such that the c-axis of the hexaponal cobalt electrodeposited thereon is parallel to the surface of the substrate. The intermediate layer may be of electro-deposited Ag, Au, Cu or Pt, or Ag on Au. The Co-P alloy may be electro-deposited from a chloride/ hyposulphite bath. In examples prior to deposition of the intermediate layer, the substrate is electroplated with copper, and coated with Co-P alloy by electroless deposition.
