Abstract

1290302 Casting building components BATIR 21 April 1971 [17 Sept 1970] 10581/71 Heading B5A Building components, e.g. individual rooms for prefabricated dwellings, comprising four longitudinally extending walls forming top, bottom and two sides successively cast horizontally on the four walls of a rotary mould, are formed by first detachably securing longitudinally extending angle corner members to the four internal corners of the mould and spaced therefrom by the thickness of the wall of the component, and utilizing these corner members to hold bracing members for sheet-metal or plywood panels in position, so that each wall can be cast and the mould then turned through 90 degrees without waiting for the previously cast wall to set. The mould consists of top and bottom sections 11 and 10 and side walls 12 carried within circular members 7 supported on rollers 8 by which the mould assembly may be rotated through an angle. The mould top and side walls are supported from hydraulic cylinder and piston units 13 which enables them to be moved apart or together slightly. The bottom wall 10 is mounted on rollers so that it can be moved out from the mould along the longitudinal axis. The four angle irons 20 are positioned at the corners of a jig 17 (Fig. 5) and reinforcement mesh 19 is placed therearound. This assembly is placed on the mould bottom and rolled into position in the mould which is clamped together by the hydraulic units. The angle irons carry tapered spacers (Fig. 7, not shown) through which they are bolted to the mould walls at the correct distance therefrom. Each angle iron carries corner gussets to which cross-members can be secured by pegs. Prefabricated cast end walls are secured in position and the bottom wall is then cast and tamped, after which a sheet of metal or plywood is laid over, beams are laid across this and metal crossmembers are laid across the beams and locked in position at their ends by pegs through the gussets previously mentioned (Figs. 9-12, not shown). The mould is then turned through 90 degrees and the process repeated with each wall in turn. The corner angle irons are then unbolted, the mould walls moved outward, and the cast unit taken out on the movable base 10, which is run on to transverse rollers on guide rails which enable the casting to be transported to a position where it can be dried, e.g. by hot panels or steam jets. The angle iron, crossmembers, braces and panels are then removed.
