Abstract
1290225 Quaternary ammonium salts ; amines UGINE KUHLMANN 2 March 1970 [18 March 1969] 9921/70 Heading C2C The invention comprises quaternary ammonium salts of the general formula in which Ar is a polyhalogenated aromatic radical, R is a divalent aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or arylaliphatic radical; R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are monovalent aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or arylaliphatic radicals, R, R 1 , R 2 and R 3 optionally containing a substituent or a hetero atom; X# is an anion and n is 1, 2 or 3. They may be produced by reacting a tertiary amine having the formula with a compound R 3 X, optionally in a solvent, e.g. benzene, monochlorobenzene, dioxane or carbon tetrachloride. Examples are given of the preparation of compounds of the formulµ The amine used as starting material in the preparation of the compound of Example II has the formula and is obtained by reacting decachlorodiphenyl with N,N-dimethylethanolamine and N,N-dimethylamino-2-ethoxypentachlorobenzene used as starting material in Example V is prepared by reacting hexachlorobenzene with N,N-dimethylethanolamine. The quaternary salts of the invention are stated to be useful as bactericides and fungicides and may be applied in the form of solutions, emulsions, powders, pastes or granulates.
