Abstract

1290083 I.C. engine rockers FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 20 July 1970 [27 Aug 1969] 35045/70 Heading F1B A hollow cast or stamped rocker 12 which is substantially U-shaped in cross-section has a semi-cylindrical internal bearing surface 28 on the bottom wall 20 which engages the annular housings 40 of needle bearing assemblies 42 on the stub shafts 38 projecting from the rocker fulcrum 34. Apertures 30 and 36 in the bottom wall 20 and fulcrum 34, respectively, are adapted to receive a bolt 32 which mounts the fulcrum on a boss 14 on the cylinder head. The ends of the stub shafts 38 may abut the rocker side walls 18 to locate the rocker laterally. The ends of the stub shafts (38<SP>1</SP>), Fig.5 (not shown), may be spaced from the side walls 18 by portions (56) of the needle bearing cages (54). The fulcrum (34<SP>1</SP>), Figs.4α and 4b (not shown), may have an integral depending tubular projection (44) of square or rectangular cross-section which is adapted to extend into a recess in the cylinder head boss 14 to prevent relative rotation. The rocker assembly may be actuated by an overhead camshaft. A metal bracket may laterally locate a plurality of rocker arms on the cylinder head.
