Abstract

1289905 Vacuum diffusion pumps PRECISION SCIENTIFIC CO 2 April 1970 [4 April 1969] 15587/70 Heading F1E In a vacuum diffusion pump backstreaming of oil vapour molecules is minimized by a topmost jet assembly comprising inner and outer jets formed by caps 48, 62 respectively which direct the oil vapour away from the space to be evacuated in the general direction of an oil sump 24, and which are heated directly by a replaceable resistance heater 78 to reduce condensation of the oil vapour. The inner jet's cap 48 has at least one passageway 60 to permit flow of vapour and is mounted on and spaced by wire spacers 44 from a jet assembly 26 to permit vapour flow. The assembly is heated by conduction from the heater 78 through a plurality of spaced fins 84 connected to a heat cylinder 86 and by radiation therefrom.
