In a sliding-vane liquid-sealed vacuum pump for pumping vapour-containing gases, the upper part, at least, of the walls 7 of the sealant reservoir is heated by a jacket 10 of the sealant, which is heated by friction to prevent condensation of vapour on the walls and consequent mixing with the sealant. The sealant is passed via a pipe 11, which may be cooled, to the pump compression chamber. The jacket 10 may be supplemented by an electric heating coil 12.
