Abstract
1289733 Electro precipitators LODGE-COTTRELL Ltd 17 July 1970 [22 July 1969] 36692/ 69 Heading B2J An electro precipitator comprises an irrigated electro-precipitator bank and a non- irrigated electro-precipitator bank, gas to be cleaned passing from the irrigated to the non- irrigated bank. Gas to be cleaned, for example CO-rich fuel gas from a steel making process, is cooled using crude water sprays (not shown) passed vertically downwards through the water sprays of a gas sorubber 14 (Fig. 1, not shown) and then vertically upwards through an electro-precipitator arrangement 18 (Figs. 1-5, not shown) comprising a lower irrigated bank of electrodes 72, 74 and an upper non-irrigated bank of electrodes 42, 44. Sprays 64 are provided for flushing all electrodes during inoperative periods. The lower ends of the electrodes are constructed to avoid shorting by the water and spaces around the electrodes are filled with a mastic composition 89 (Fig. 7, not shown) to avoid risk of explosions.
