Abstract

1289283 N,N-disubstituted alanine derivatives SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 22 Dec 1970 [4 March 1970] 10375/70 Addition to 1164160 Heading C2C N,N-disubstituted alanine derivatives of the general formula in which X is a hydrogen or chlorine atom and Y is a carboxyl group or salts and alkyl esters thereof. Compounds claimed per se are N- benzoyl - N - (4 - fluorophenyl) alanine ethyl ester; N - benzoyl - N - (3 - chloro - 4 - fluorophenyl) alanine ethyl ester. Compounds in which Y is a carbalkoxy group are prepared by reacting a mono-N-substituted alanine derivative of the formula with a benzoyl halide, e.g. chloride. The compounds have herbicidal properties and may be made up in herbicidal compositions.
