1288949 Binding tool MAX CORP 18 Dec 1969 [25 Dec 1968] 61789/69 Heading F2G A tool for binding a plurality of articles with a loop of tape comprises a base 1 pivotally attached to both a pin magazine 2 and a pin presser 3, the parts being urged apart by springs 5, 6. A push rod 9 is adapted to pivot a spring-returned tapeholding plate 13 away from a tape-receiving plate 15, and an operating member 12 affixed to the presser is adapted to depress the push rod when the parts are closed together by handle 7, a release mechanism 19 being actuated to control the longitudinal movement of the push rod when so depressed. Tape A is fed from a reel 28 through gap 26, 27 and is allowed to project slightly. On operating the handle 7 the push rod 9 is depressed and the release mechanism 19 allows the rod to move rightwards away from plate 13, thereby allowing projection 14 to grip the tape in a hole 16 in plate 15. Release of the handle 7 allows the base 1 and pin frame 2 to separate, a length of tape being pulled out between these members. Reoperation of the handle 7 bends the tape into a loop between the "jaws" into which loop the articles are positioned. On closing the "jaws" a pin B is forced by the pusher 3<SP>1</SP> to pierce the tape and its ends are turned under by the anvil 25 while cutter 29 severs the tape. The release mechanism 19 forces the rod leftwards to disengage the holders 13, 15 and release the tape. Release of handle 7 allows separation of the "jaws" the push rod 9 being returned past gap 21 by pivoting of lever 20, a small tail of tape is left.
