Abstract

The binder of the present invention comprises: Connecting the pin frame containing the base and pin to the presser at the rear end thereof to the effect that said pin frame and the presser can be freely opened by the operation of the handle. Said presser has tape containing portion, and the tape is drawn out with slight opening and closing force of said handle and is stuck between the end of the base and that of the pin frame. Thus, grape vines and supporting shelf are inserted in between the base and the pin frame on which tape is stuck, and when the handle is forcibly closed, the grape vines and the supporting shelf are unitedly bound, and the end portion thereof is held with pin, and the tape is cut off with the cutting edge, and the end portion of the tape is slightly lowered from the front end portion of said pin frame by means of opening operation of the handle, and then said tape is taken out of the following slight closing operation of the handle and it is stuck thereon. By repeating such handle operation as above, the grape vines are bound with tape on the supporting shelf.

DETAILED EXPLANATION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to the binder for binding grape vines by drawing the same onto the supporting shelf, and more in particular the object of the present invention is to provide such a mechanism for quickly carrying out the operation for binding grape vines or the like such that there is no fear that the push-rod should become tangled with grape vines or damage other articles by hitting the same during operation.
The following are the explanations about the present invention in accordance with the attached diagrams.
(l) is the base for holding and binding the tape (A) for binding grape vines;
(2) is the pin frame containing the pins or staples (B) as in the conventional staplers.
(3) is the presser having the pin driving member (3') on the end thereof.
The rear end portions of the base (1), the pin frame(2) and the presser (3) are connected by means of the shaft (4) and a coil spring (5) is provided between the base (I) and the pin frame (2), and the plate spring (6) is provided between the pin frame (2) and the presser (3).
(7) is the handle and the middle portion thereof ispivoted on the base (I), and it is placed in such a manner that said handle (7) can be connected from above to the shaft (8) provided in the middle portion of the presser (3).
(9) is the push-rod, and is provided parallelly within the base (1), and projection (I0) is provided on a part of the rear portion of said push rod (9), and the coil spring (11) is provided between the projection and the base (l), and said coil spring (III) is elastically contacted against the roller of the operation member (H) which projects downwardly from the middle portion of the presser (3).
(13) is the tape holding plate or lever and is shaped in the form of a reverse L, and is positioned adjacent on the end of the push-rod (9), and at the same time the end portion (l4) thereof is shaped into the form of pin or book, and the base end thereof is pivoted on the base (l) by means of the pin (l7) in such a manner that end portion (14) can pass through a small aperture (16) formed in the tape receiving plate provided on the base (1), and a coil spring (lid) is provided between the base (I) and the lower end of the tape holding lever (ill) to force the tape holding lever (13) onto the side of the tape receiving plate (l5).
The casing (119) contains a clutch lever for operating the rear end of the push rod (9) which extends inside the easing (19), the rear end of said clutch lever (Jill) being pivoted on the casing by means of the pin (22) in such manner that the end of said clutch lever (Ztl) can be on the same plane as the outer peripheral surface of the side wall (39') on the easing (19) The end oflever (20) projects into the vertically long hole (21) to permit the lever to be moved up and down.
The rear end of the push-rod connected to the clutch lever (24)) also has an aslant surface (24) on the lower half portion thereof with the upper half portion thereof forming a projected member (23) which is placed in such a manner that the projected member (23) can be connected on the projected checlt point (25) provided on the upper portion of the side wall (19') of the casing or the upper edge of said vertically long hole (21) and at the same time the aslant surface (24) can be connected to the clutch lever (ZII).
(25) is the curved base or reaction surface for the pins provided on the upper portion of the base (ll); (26) is the tape guide provided on the front portion of the pin frame (2), and the tape (A) is inserted between the same and the tape pressing member (27) provided in parallel with said tape guide (216) to hold the tape.
(2%) is the tape containing portion, and (2 9) is the taping cutting edge.
The following are the explanations about the operations.
Tape (A) is drawn from the tape containing portion (23), and is inserted between the tape guide (26:) and the tape pressing member (27) from the end of the presser (3) to be lightly held, and is placed in such a manner that said tape is a little drawn out from the tape guide ('26) (rotated counter clockwise in FIG. 1).
Next, when the handle (7) is lightly compressed, the end portion thereof pushes the shaft (3), and therefore the base (i) is rotated upwards with the shaft (4i) as the fulcrum, and the curved base (25) and the pin frame (2) are contacted.
The operation member (12.) pushed down the projection (Ml) of the push-rod (9) against the fbrce of the coil spring (Ill) and therefore the projection (23) (see FIG. 4A) at the rear end portion of the push rod (9) connected to the projection (25 is released from the projection (25') and is lowered while moving on the outer peripheral surface of the sidewall (l9') and arrives at the longitudinally long hole (233i) and comes into the free state.
Thereafter the tape holding plate (13), whose rotation was previously prevented by the end of said push rod, is rotated toward the side of the tape receiving plate (l5) by means of the elasticity of the coil spring (118), and passes through the tape (A) drawn out by the tape guide (26) and bites the tape (A) by passing the needle (l l) through the aperture (116) of the tape receiving plate (IE) to fix the same.
On the other hand, the projection (23) at the rear end of the push-rod (9) is moved to the right by the rotation of the supporting lever (I3) to be connected to the upper fringe of the longitudinal hole (21) (Refer to FIG. 43).
Next, when the force on the handle (7) is reduced, pin frame (2) and the base (l) are opened by means of the coil spring (5), and at the same time the tape (A) is also taken out as is shown with the dotted line of FIG. 1.
Next, the grape vines and the supporting shelf are inserted into the opening portion thereof and when handle (7) is compressed, frame (2) and base (l) swing toward one another whereby plate spring (6) is pushed to lower the presser (3), and the pin (B) within the pin frame (2) is driven out by means of the pin driving piece (3'), and binds the tape (A) due to the pin contacting the curved base (25) of the base (l) and at the same time the tape cutting edge (29) provided on the presser (3) is lowered to cut off the: tape (A).
On the other hand, in regard to the operation member (12) of the presser (3), the operation member (M) of the presser (El) presses down the projection (10) of the push-rod (9), and therefore the aslant surface (24) of the rear end portion of the push-rod (9) is contacted against the clutch lever (2%) (Refer to FIG. 4C), and is lowered to the left aslantly, and the end of the projection (23) is contacted against the clutch lever (20) to move the push-rod (9) to the left (refer to MG. 45).
By said movement, the end of the push-rod (9) presses against the tape holding lever (23) whereby the lever is rotated in the counterclockwise direction against the force of the coil spring (Ill), to return the upper end thereof into the open state. (Refer to FIG. 3)
Next, when the pressing force of the handle (7) is reduced, the base (1) and the pin frame (2) are released, and therefore the tape (A) can be taken out of the binder, but on the other hand, the push-rod (9) is released of the pressing force of the operation piece (12), and therefore it can be moved upwards by means of the elasticity of the coil spring (1 1), but the aslant surface (24) of the rear end portion thereof cannot move to the right due to the end of the clutch lever (20), whereby the rear end of the push-rod is raised upwards (Refer to FIG. 4D), and therefore it moves on the outer peripheral surface of the sidewall (19') of the box (19), and is connected to the projection (25') (Refer to FIG. 4A) and is turned back to the next position of the binding operation.
As described so far in the foregoing paragraphs, in accordance with the present invention grape vines can be quickly bound, and at the same time in the present invention the push-rod for carrying out the retaining and releasing of tape is separated from the presser, and is provided on the base, and therefore there is no fear that the push-rod should be tangled with the grape vines or that it should hit other articles to give damage thereto.
On the other hand, the movement or stopping of the pushrod, can be carried out by means of a clutch lever, and therefore operation can be accurately carried out, and it is possible to obtain a durable and economical binder in accordance with the present invention, and at the same time a number of excellent effects can be obtained.

A device for binding a plurality of articles with a loop of tape secured by a binding pin, comprising a base, tape-holding means secured adjacent one end of said base and including a tape-holding member movably mounted on said base and adapted for coaction with a flexible tape for securing a portion of said tape relative to said base, rod means movably mounted on said base with an end portion of said rod means coacting with said tape-holding member for maintaining the same in a released position out of engagement with said tape, a presser member connected to said base and movable toward and away therefrom, said presser member having a portion adapted to contact said rod means when said presser member is moved toward said base for causing said rod means to be moved downwardly relative to said base, and means coacting between said base and said rod means in response to said downward movement of said rod means relative to said base for enabling said tape-holding member to move into an operable position for engaging and holding the tape.

A device according to claim 1, further including a handle means pivotally mounted on one of said base and presser member and coacting with the otherof said base and presser member for permitting pivotal movement of said base and presser member toward and away from one another, and said rod means being mounted on said base for downward movement relative thereto between first and second positions, and resilient means coacting between said base and said rod means for normally maintaining said rod means in said first position, actuation of said handle means for causing said presser member to be moved toward said base causing said presser member to contact said rod means to move same away from said first position toward said second position, said rod means being initially moved to a position intermediate said first and second positions for causing said tape-holding member to engage and hold said tape, and said rod means being maintained in said intermediate position when said presser member is pivotally moved away from said base back to its original position, whereby said tape-holding member remains in engagement with said tape.

A binder for binding grape vines with tape, comprising an elongated presser member, an elongated pin frame adapted to have securing pins disposed therein, an elongated base, connecting means pivotally interconnecting the adjacent rearward ends of the base and the pin frame and the presser member for permitting relative pivotal movement therebetween, handle means pivotally mounted on said base and including a first portion adapted to be manually gripped and a second portion coacting with said presser member whereby pivotal movement of said handle means relative to said base causes a corresponding pivotal movement of said presser member relative to said base, tape-holding and receiving means provided on said base adjacent the other end thereof for engaging and holding the free end of a length of tape, elongated actuating means movably mounted on said base for movement longitudinally thereof for controlling said tape receiving and holding means, said elongated actuating means also being movably mounted on said base for lateral movement toward and away from said presser member, operating means on said presser member coacting with said actuator means for controlling lateral movement thereof relative to said base when said presser member is pivotally moved toward said base, and control means mounted on said base and coacting with said elongated actuator means for controlling the longitudinal movement thereof.

A binder according to claim 3, wherein said presser member has mounting means thereon for mounting a roll of tape with said tape being fed longitudinally along the length of said presser member and dispensed adjacent the free end thereof, said pin frame being pivotally disposed between said presser member and said base and having tape guide means adjacent the free end thereof for guiding the tape therethrough after said tape is dispensed from the free end of said presser member.

A binder according to claim 4, wherein said tape receiving and holding means includes a tape receiving plate disposed adjacent the free end of said base for permitting the free end of the tape to be positioned adjacent thereto, said tape holding and receiving means further including a tape-holding lever pivotally mounted adjacent said tape-receiving plate and means resiliently urging said lever toward said plate, said tapeholding lever having gripping means on the free end thereof for engaging and holding the free end of the tape when the tape is disposed adjacent the tape-receiving plate.

A binder according to claim 5, wherein said actuator means includes an elongated rod having one end adapted to contact said tape-holding lever for normally maintaining said lever out of engagement with said tape, said control means including an abutment surface coacting with the other end of said rod for maintaining said rod in a first longitudinal position for holding said lever out of engagement with said tape, resilient means coacting between said base and said rod for holding same in a first lateral position relative to said base, said control means further including an aperture therein for permitting the other end of said rod to pass therethrough when said rod is moved laterally by said presser from said first lateral position to an intermediate lateral position, whereby the other end of said rod passes into said aperture for permitting said rod to move longitudinally from said first position to a second longitudinal position whereby said lever is resiliently urged into engagement with said tape for holding same.

A binder according to claim 6, wherein said control means further includes a blocking lever pivotally disposed adjacent the other end of said rod and cam means coacting between said rod and said blocking lever whereby continued lateral displacement of said rod to a second lateral position causes said rod to be moved from said second longitudinal position to said first longitudinal position for releasing said tape.
8. A binder according to claim 7, wherein said base further includes a reaction surface formed thereon closely adjacent said tape-receiving plate whereby pivotal movement of said presser member and said pin frame toward said base causes a binding pin to contact said reaction member for securing same to a tape loop disposed between said pin frame and said base, and cutter means disposed adjacent the free end of said presser member and coacting with said reaction member for severing said tape loop.

Claims (8)

1. A device for binding a plurality of articles with a loop of tape secured by a binding pin, comprising a base, tape-holding means secured adjacent one end of said base and including a tapeholding member movably mounted on said base and adapted for coaction with a flexible tape for securing a portion of said tape relative to said base, rod means movably mounted on said base with an end portion of said rod means coacting with said tapeholding member for maintaining the same in a released position out of engagement with said tape, a presser member connected to said base and movable toward and away therefrom, said presser member having a portion adapted to contact said rod means when said presser member is moved toward said base for causing said rod means to be moved downwardly relative to said base, and means coacting between said base and said rod means in response to said downward movement of said rod means relative to said base for enabling said tape-holding member to move into an operable position for engaging and holding the tape.

A device according to claim 1, further including a handle means pivotally mounted on one of said base and presser member and coacting with the other of said base and presser member for permitting pivotal movement of said base and presser member toward and away from one another, and said rod means being mounted on said base for downward movement relative thereto between first and second positions, and resilient means coacting between said base and said rod means for normally maintaining said rod means in said first position, actuation of said handle means for causing said presser member to be moved toward said base causing said presser member to contact said rod means to move same away from said first position toward said second position, said rod means being initially moved to a position intermediate said first and second positions for causing said tape-holding member to engage and hold said tape, and said rod means being maintained in said intermediate position when said presser member is pivotally moved away from said base back to its original position, whereby said tape-holding member remains in engagement with said tape.

A binder for binding grape vines with tape, comprising an elongated presser member, an elongated pin frame adapted to have securing pins disposed therein, an elongated base, connecting means pivotally interconnecting the adjacent rearward ends of the base and the pin frame and the presser member for permitting relative pivotal movement therebetween, handle means pivotally mounted on said base and including a first portion adapted to be manually gripped and a second portion coacting with said presser member whereby pivotal movement of said handle means relative to said base causes a corresponding pivotal movement of said presser member relative to said base, tape-holding and receiving means provided on said base adjacent the other end thereof for engaging and holding the free end of a length of tape, elongated actuating means movably mounted on said base for movement longitudinally thereof for controlling said tape receiving and holding means, said elongated actuating means also being movably mounted on said base for lateral movement toward and away from said presser member, operating means on said presser member coacting with said actuator means for controlling lateral movement thereof relative to said base when said presser member is pivotally moved toward said base, and control means mounted on said base and coacting with said elongated actuator means for controlling the longitudinal movement thereof.

A binder according to claim 3, wherein said presser member has mounting means thereon for mounting a roll of tape with said tape being fed longitudinally along the length of said presser member and dispensed adjacent the free end thereof, said pin frame being pivotally disposed between said presser member and said base and having tape guide means adjacent the free end thereof for guiding the tape therethrough after said tape is dispensed from the free end of said presser member.

A binder according to claim 4, wherein said tape receiving and holding means includes a tape receiving plate disposed adjacent the free end of said base for permitting the free end of the tape to be positioned adjacent thereto, said tape holding and receiving means further including a tape-holding lever pivotally mounted adjacent said tape-receiving plate and means resiliently urging said lever toward said plate, said tape-holding lever having gripping means on the free end thereof for engaging and holding the free end of the tape when the tape is disposed adjacent the tape-receiving plate.

A binder according to claim 5, wherein said actuator means includes an elongated rod having one end adapted to contact said tape-Holding lever for normally maintaining said lever out of engagement with said tape, said control means including an abutment surface coacting with the other end of said rod for maintaining said rod in a first longitudinal position for holding said lever out of engagement with said tape, resilient means coacting between said base and said rod for holding same in a first lateral position relative to said base, said control means further including an aperture therein for permitting the other end of said rod to pass therethrough when said rod is moved laterally by said presser from said first lateral position to an intermediate lateral position, whereby the other end of said rod passes into said aperture for permitting said rod to move longitudinally from said first position to a second longitudinal position whereby said lever is resiliently urged into engagement with said tape for holding same.

A binder according to claim 6, wherein said control means further includes a blocking lever pivotally disposed adjacent the other end of said rod and cam means coacting between said rod and said blocking lever whereby continued lateral displacement of said rod to a second lateral position causes said rod to be moved from said second longitudinal position to said first longitudinal position for releasing said tape.
8. A binder according to claim 7, wherein said base further includes a reaction surface formed thereon closely adjacent said tape-receiving plate whereby pivotal movement of said presser member and said pin frame toward said base causes a binding pin to contact said reaction member for securing same to a tape loop disposed between said pin frame and said base, and cutter means disposed adjacent the free end of said presser member and coacting with said reaction member for severing said tape loop.
