Abstract
1461980 Suture apparatus VSES N I I ISPYTATEL INST MEDITSIN TEKHN 2 May 1974 [28 Sept 1973] 19402/74 Heading A5R A surgical apparatus for suturing soft tissues with staples comprises two guides 1, 2 interhinged at one end, the free ends biased apart by a spring 3, magazine 4 for storing a plurality of U-shaped staples at the free end of guide- 1, a pusher 5 slidable along guide 1 to eject the staples from magazine 4 points first two pairs of curvilinear needle-shaped dies 6 on the free ends for seizing tissue as the guides are brought together, a mechanism 7 for displacing said magazine and feeding new staples to the working position, knives 10, 11 for cutting the tissue between the applied staples and an L-shaped member 9 on the free end of guide 1 for detaching the tissue. Dies 6 and member 9 are rounded off at the tips. The surgeon places the dies 6 about a duct to be sutured and pushes lever 12 connected to pusher 5 towards the free ends of the guides 1, 2 thus moving the free ends of the guides 1, 2 together. Projection 30 on pusher 5 moves in slot 28 to turn lever 27 and via spring 29 to turn magazine 4 presenting a pair of staples to be ejected by pusher 5. Projections 22 of lever 12 slide in groove 23 of guide 1 until each end of each staple reaches the curved portion of its die 6 when projections 22 leave grooves 23 and lever 12 turns on its axle 21, projection 19 of lever 12 entering hole 20 in guide 2 and bearing against the side of the hole 20 nearest the guides' hinge to aid movement of pusher 5 until the latter contacts eccentric stop 32. The staples are bent by grooves in the dies 6. The surgeon pulls and presses lever 12 so its projection 19 bears against the side of hole 20 nearest the guides' free ends aiding the movement of pusher 5 back towards the hinge. Projection 13 of lever 12 pushes projection 16 of lever 14 turning the latter about axle 33 and causing knife 11 to cut the duct. The projections 22 of lever 12 reengage grooves 23 and as lever 12 moves towards the guides' hinge, projection 13 disengages from projection 16 allowing spring 15 to return the knife 11 to its original position. The free ends of the guides spring apart. Projection 13 can be retracted inside lever 12 by turning handle 18 so that no cutting of the sutured duct is performed.
