Abstract
1288838 Hydrocracking SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 24 March 1970 [26 March 1969] 14205/70 Heading C5E A hydrocarbon oil of initial b.p. of at least 250‹ C. and final b.p. of at most 450‹ C., with not more than 20% v. boiling above 350‹ C., is hydrocracked to give a naphtha of high ring content and/or a kerosine suitable as a jet fuel at 390-450‹ C., 75-125 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> and a hydrogen gas supply of 250-2500 Nl/l. oil in a onestage conversion. In the presence of Ni and W supported on Al 2 O 3 containing less than 5 wt. per cent SiO 2 and at least 3À5 wt. per cent fluorine, a fluorine compound being added to the conversion zone and at least part of the product boiling above the kerosine range being recycled to extinction. The catalyst is preferably in sulphidic form. The kerosine product may be hydrogenated to convert the aromatic content to saturated compounds with a Ni/ kieselguhr, a Rh on Al 2 O 3 or Pt on Al 2 O 3 catalyst at 200-425‹ C. and 40-150 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> Other hydrogenation catalysts which may be used are Ni and/or Co sulphide with W and/or Mo sulphides on an oxidic carrier, e.g. B 2 O 3 , SiO 2 , MgO or Al 2 O 3 .
