Abstract

1288826 Control of motors PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN NV 14 Sept 1970 [12 Sept 1969] 43761/70 Heading H2J A D.C. motor M has a permanent magnet field and is supplied from A.C. mains through a semi-conductor rectifier 30, the motor being adapted to operate a washing machine reversibly at a low speed for washing, and in a single direction at high speed for spinning. A reversing arrangement comprises cam-operated switches 21-27, and a separate programming arrangement has timer switches 25<SP>1</SP>-27<SP>1</SP>. The switch 25 is closed to determine the motor voltage during the washing operation, and is opened, when the switches 21, 23, are closed, for the spinning period. An A.C. motor 31 which drives the reversing arrangement is stopped during the spinning operation by opening switch 26. The switch 27 which controls a pump 32 for draining the tub is closed when the motor 31 is stopped. During the washing operation, the switches 25-27 are short-circuited by the switches 25<SP>1</SP>-27<SP>1</SP>. To transfer to the spinning operation, the switches 25<SP>1</SP>-27<SP>1</SP> are opened at first. The switch 26 remains closed for a period until the switches 21, 23, are closed whereupon the switch 26 opens to stop the motor 31. Opening the switch 25 then introduces the spinning operation.
