Abstract
1288802 Treating textiles with gaseous fluids IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 4 May 1970 [19 May 1969] 25429/69 Heading D1L A sheet structure or web is treated with a gaseous fluid under low, controlled mechanical pressures (between 3.5 and 140gm/cm<SP>2</SP>) by passing it between a non-deformable impervious movable member and a conformable, porous member, both of which move at the surface speed of the web, the porous member forming, for at least part of the distance over which it and the non-deformable member both contact the web, a wall of a chamber in which the treatment fluid is maintained. In the embodiment described the non-deformable member is a roller 2, preferably of stainless steel, heated internally if heated treatment fluid is utilised, and the porous, conformable member is an endless conveyor belt 6, of a woven fabric such as canvas or a fabric of metal wire, preferably phosphor-bronze wire, the web to be treated (not shown) passing between these members. The treatment fluid is maintained in trough 9, either by being supplied thereto via a pipe 10 in which case condensate may be removed from pipe 18, or the trough may contain a liquid, the vapour from which is the treatment fluid (in which case the liquid may be recirculated). In its passage the endless conveyor belt 6 passes under a roller (5, Fig. 1) on which weights may be hung to tension the belt to any required degree.
